Steam Sucks, anything CEF dependent sucks.

u13419 さんの投稿 @ 4月 12, 2025

So, I always had this hatred for Valve - why force yourself to use CEF? It's heavy on the RAM, doesn't run well and sometimes just doesn't load things. Genuinely, why bother?

True, the style of VGUI steam was shit, but hey, it ran great on MANY devices, including low-memory devices with just 2 GB of RAM, I used Steam back then and I used VGUI Steam even when CEF was pushed out, it was Great.

Now, VALVE want's to fizzle out the only thing that keeps people that don't want to run the 8 gb behemoth( I surely don't want that, I already have tons of shit running in the background which causes my memory to be filled, I have 8 gb btw.

I found a client which works AT THE TIME OF WRITING THIS, it's basically something I was REALLY WISHING FOR, like, genuinely, I don't care about new stuff, I love old stuff, and this is a life saver for me

Unfortunately, the library is still CEF as well as the annoying deals pop-up window, but it's still something, atleast it runs 8x better than the clusterfuck that is the new client

This might be my last post for some time since I will be focusing on some stuff, but I will be posting here at times

The PlayStation 3

u13419 さんの投稿 @ 4月 07, 2025

The PlayStation 3, the thing that is legendary for its time... as a timebomb depending on the model and an experimental architure. Pretty nice, right?

That's what I think of it, a neat, somewhat challenging console to work with in terms of development, both in Linux environments and native GameOS. GabeN and othe developers complained about the console requiering a re-optimization of titles as well as having to make it as efficient as possible

The console uses a custom PowerPC architecture CPU under the name of CELL/B.E, running @ a staggering 3.2 GHz. for the time of 2006, but this means code must be optimized to CELL's own coding, the console as uses a custom GPU called the RSX, which is known for its infamous failure rate

Not the NEC/TOKIN, the RSX. That's been confirmed as one of the common, but not the main cause of YLOD, the PS3, as well as the early 360's, are plagued by the solder-curse, where companies like TSMC used cheap lead-free solder for chips which caused the epidemic on GPU's and all the way to the Mac. This basically means you can only jsut delay the death of the processor or GPU unless you franken-mod it with 65nm or the 40nm RSX as those tend to use much better solder for the main chip and for the board

I own a PHAT PlayStation 3 model, unfortunately I played a bad gamble in terms of how reliable it is and I've gotten the worst model, the CECHH, known for it's bad cooling when compared to the CECHG. The model uses much smaller cooling fans and radiators, which is the main cause. This console is on an older Firmware, so I would love to CFW it, but I don't want to get rid of its value as it has it's original box

Since it's on it's original firmware, I can install OtherOS, which is basically Linux. However, my harddrive is unable to be formatted correctly by the console and just wipes everything, it has the Slim model harddrive, so there's unfortunately not much I can do

I love the original PS3 and it's bulky design, the slims are great, but I don't see the charm in them as I do with the humongous one. I've been planning on playing a few japanese titles I own since the PS3 like the PSP is region-free thanks to developers not really focusing on region-locking their games

Futueeer planz

u13419 さんの投稿 @ 4月 05, 2025

Oh boy, future plans, that's a hard one ain't it? Plans change a lot and such and you have to know that whatever you say right now isn't gonna be persistent as time goes on, but you DO have some plans or goals that are rock-solid and wont change unless they're impossible to do. I have some of those and I'll talk about them here

  1. Future studies, in some post I have mentioned that I have been wanting to sign up for the  "MEXT" Scholarship, which is a Government-funded Japanese scholarship which ranges from Undergraduate to Research , this is the most nerdiest way to say "i wanna go to japan",  but this is one of the things I have considered ahead of time due to me learning Japanese. Even though Japan has a toxic study&work culture, it's still considered as one of the most prestigious places to learn something due to the quality of teaching.
This also comes with a side-effect of me having to re-learn Calculus, Parabolas, etc. Basically relearn the entirety of school & college. Oh, and also fix all of my grades in college since I will have to bring the grades from there to the application documents.
  2. Job related bull, I will most likely try to find a comfortable source of income either at a normal job, online, be stuck with AB or try teaching, the last one being the "if anything doesn't go the way i want" plan

That's pretty much it. LOL.

Repairs

u13419 さんの投稿 @ 4月 05, 2025

Since we moved to a new apartment, we have been steadily doing repairs and other stuff to our apartment. Recently, we got a used AC unit to setup inside our apartment for the upcoming summer & winter times, but that's not the thing I'm gonna focus here

Recently, we have began working on something that I have wanted for basically the entirety of my life, a wall to close me off from my parents side. We're half-way done but it will be pretty much done in 2 days which is exciting, the only part is that I have to stop doing what I was doing since I have to turn off basically everything including my internet connection

We agreed to do it this month not because of my want to be separated from my parents, but because my dad is gonna be serving for quite some time(2 years, basically). Pretty understandable since me and my mom are NOT gonna be able to do the wall by ourself's.

I'll update this blog post with photos and such once I have time, but at the moment, it's an essay manifesto.
